FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 1, 2008 Capital City Arts Initiative's signature series of presentations on contemporary art, "Nevada Neighbors," continues in November with "What We Know and How We Know It: Photography and History," a talk by UNR Journalism professor Howard Goldbaum on Wednesday, November 12 at the Carson City Library at 6:30 p.m. There will be an informal reception for Professor Goldbaum at the library at 6:00 p.m. preceding his talk. The library is located at 900 North Roop Street. The lecture and reception are free and the public is cordially invited. Of interest to history and photography enthusiasts alike, Professor Goldbaum's talk is presented in conjunction with "Capital Views: Photography and History" an exhibition commemorating the 150th anniversary of the founding of Carson City, on view at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. He will discuss the exhibition, focusing on the photography's unique role in our perception of history and memory. He will also explore the increasingly technology-driven landscape of media in the 21st century, and the evolving nature of photography and photojournalism.An Associate Professor at the Reynolds School of Journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno, Howard Goldbaum worked as a photojournalist, professor, and multimedia producer before moving from Illinois to Nevada in 2003. The Capital City Arts Initiative is an artist-centered organization committed to the encouragement and support of artists and the arts and culture of Carson City and the surrounding region. The Initiative is committed to community building for the area's diverse adult and youth populations through art projects and exhibitions, live events, arts education programs, artist residencies, and its web site.
